Texas Automation Products (TAP) is a third generation OEM manufacturer founded in 1960 specializing in industrial, high production heat seal machines and equipment. Our commitment to quality and customer service has made us one of the industry leaders in heat seal machine manufacturing for the past four decades.
TAP was founded in 1960 by Automotive Mechanic / Machine Designer Calvin McSpadden as an automotive and general machine job shop.
TAP's first heat seal machine (model HS-10) was designed to meet the needs of major blue jean manufacturers in applying reinforced knee patches in children’s jeans. Prior to the design of the HS-10 employees would use hand irons to apply the reinforced knee patches. The quality of the patch seal would be dependent on the individual employee’s skill of applying sufficient pressure for a specific time. The HS-10 provided an automated solution to the application of the knee patches, applying more consistently at a higher production rate while reducing operator fatigue.
In 1980 TAP was passed down to Calvin’s son Joe McSpadden who brought his skills as a class A machinist and machine design knowledge to further develop the Heat Seal Machine Line. Joe, working on design and production while his wife Karen managed the clerical and administrative duties quickly accelerated the growth of TAP by expanding the machining capabilities of the company while manufacturing an updated version of the model HS-10, the HS-21 Heat Seal Machine.
Joe’s first Heat Seal Machine design for the industrial laundry and uniform industry was inspired by suggestions from local Dallas Cowboy legend Chuck Howley who owned and operated Chuck Howley Uniforms at the time. After meeting with Mr. Howley at his uniform company and listening to the pros and cons of the heat seal machines currently being used, Joe incorporated his feedback in to the designed the HS-30 series single head machine and later the HS-40 series high production swivel head machine.
Today’s current “day to day” operations are being carried out by the third generation brothers Joe II and Jordan McSpadden. Joe II has 25 years experience in the heat seal industry and has been involved in all aspects of the company including manufacturing, sales, service and design. Jordan with 13 years experience in production and CNC programming currently oversees the machine shop operations and has added to the efficiency of our production through advanced CNC machining which continually expands our capabilities while providing cost effective quality parts.
